About John T. Kirk

John Thomas (Tommy) Kirk maintains his law office in Montgomery, Alabama and concentrates his practice in DUI and other related alcohol / drug offenses. Tommy Kirk was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1972. Following admission to the bar, he spent eight years as prosecutor for the City of Montogmery Municipal Court and also represented the City of Montgomery at the Circuit Court level before devoting full time to his private practice. Tommy was one of the founding members of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, ACDLA, which serves as the voice for the State's criminal defense community to promote excellence in the practice of criminal law. He later served as the organization's President. He received the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyer's Associations' highest honor, the Roderick Beddow Award, for achievement and excellence for criminal defense. Tommy Kirk was one of the first lawyers in the State of Alabama to focus his criminal defense practice in defense of driving under the influence charges. He has represented thousand of defendants charged with DUI or alcohol/drug related traffic assault or homicide charges. Tommy was also among the Founding Members of the National College for DUI Defense, Inc. (NCDD), a professional non-profit corporation dedicated to the improvement/education of DUI criminal defense attorneys throughout the country. He previously served as Dean of the College (2004-2005) and as Board Regent. He is now a Fellow of the NCDD and a recipient of the Erwin-Taylor Award (NCDD's highest honor) for accomplishments and contributions to the NCDD.
