Brendan Ahern is a former senior homicide prosecutor and seasoned trial attorney who has trained with police agencies and leading experts in criminal investigations, accident reconstruction, and DWI testing. Today he specializes in criminal defense, personal injury, and wrongful death.

 

Mr. Ahern was a senior member of the DA’s elite Vehicular Crimes Bureau where he litigated high-profile murders, manslaughters, vehicular homicides, narcotic distribution, felony DWI, and a range of other criminal offenses from investigations, grand jury, pleas, trials to sentencing.

 

Additionally, Mr. Ahern served as a Deputy Bureau Chief of the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, where he supervised all DWI prosecutions in the District Court Trial Bureau, including all jury trials, hearings, and investigations.

 

He has secured positive outcomes on complex criminal matters that have garnered local, national, and international media attention, including a subject featured on America’s Most Wanted. He has secured suppression of evidence on felony matters featured in the NY Law Journal. Recently, he was retained as a consultant to a leading CA law firm in a triple homicide regarding civil causation. In the courtroom, he has obtained successful jury verdicts in trials described by experts as “rare and difficult to prove.”

 

Mr. Ahern was appointed as a Special Prosecutor in Suffolk County, awarded a Citation from the Nassau County Homicide Squad, recognized with an Executive Citation from the Nassau County Executive, and testified before the NYS Senate Transportation Committee regarding criminal legislation.

 

Mr. Ahern was appointed Special Professor of Law to Hofstra University School of Law. He was repeatedly invited as an instructor to teach courses for the various groups including Suffolk County Criminal Court Bar Association, First Department Assigned Counsel, and Legal Aid Society on topics such as Opening & Closing Statements in DWI Trials, Advanced Trial Advocacy, joint State & Federal Narcotics Investigations, federal gun law, DWI Defense, Accident Investigation & Reconstruction in DWI to Vehicular Homicides.
