About Me

Mr. Bernstein is the author of Florida DUI Defense: The Law and Practice, Lawyers & Judges Publishing Company, Inc. He is one of the founders of the National College for DUI Defense. He has lectured on DUI issues in Florida, and out of state about Florida’s breath testing machine to blood testing in DUI cases.  His clients have included lawyers, police officers, pro athletes, political figures, business executives, entertainers and just plain folks. 

Alan Bernstein attended Nova Southeastern Law School, where he graduated near the top of his class in 1981. Mr. Bernstein is the founder of Alan S. Bernstein P.A., with offices in both Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood. His firms practice is devoted almost entirely to Traffic and DUI defense. He has been practicing criminal law, with an emphasis on DUI since 1982. He is a member of the Broward Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has had extensive training in the defense of citizens’ accused of Driving Under the Influence. In 1995, Mr. Bernstein became a founding member of The National College for DUI Defense, which is the leading institution in the United States for training attorneys to defend DUI cases. He has completed courses on the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. He has received training as an Intoxilyzer 5000 and Intoxilyzer 8000 series Operator and Maintenance technician through C.E.S. Consulting and The Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Mr. Bernstein is a highly trained attorney in the area of alcohol-related DUI, and the growing area of DUI drug cases. He has taught other attorneys on the use, theory and law on the Intoxilyzer, in addition to lecturing at the National College for DUI Defense. Mr. Bernstein is often involved in large-scale challenges to DUI chemical testing, investigative methods and Field Sobriety Testing. He was on the team that attacked the Field Sobriety Tests that led to the seminal decision in State v. Meador, 674 So.2d 826 (Fla. 4th DCA 1996). He has earned a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and highly skilled DUI attorneys in Florida. His opinion is sought by DUI attorneys throughout South Florida. Mr. Bernstein resides in South Florida with his wife and son.
